As a resident of Iowa county, I can only tell you how disturbing this is. Not a new issue, the Iowa county board members have been told NO for six years now. It only took one person to change their vote in what I see as a sneaky trick, out of the blue. The petition, even if not "legal," should have been enough to tell the Iowa county board "no" again. The residents speaking at the meetingS should tell them "NO. "The protest should have told them "NO." The building will cost an estimated $6,400,000. The chances of being within budget are? The county seat of Iowa county is Dodgeville. Land's End/Sears/K-Mart and Dodgeville have been battling in court over previous years property taxes. A (dare I say seems to be biased or bribed) judge has found in favor of the plaintiff for two years and they're now going for three. Property taxes in (at least) Dodgeville went up 10% on average. Mine personally went up about $220 per year, in spite of my values dropping approx. $10,000. My fair market value is below my assesed value for the first time ever. Can't wait 'til next year when the Land's End thing takes a real toll, and Doyle takes his toll, and this building takes it's toll, and universal health care takes it's toll. What else am I forgetting? Perhaps a proposed school referendum? If it keeps going I could see people moving to near-by Grant or Laffayette county where you don't have to pay $2500 per year on a $100k home.

The question is, where were all these people for the past two years? I fail to understand why there were no complaints during the time when this building was being planned. I knew about it, I am not a board member but do pay attention to government, so it was not hidden and passed in secrete like so many people are saying around Iowa County. Now that the deal is done, there are people asking why? Well, because it has been in planning for two years without opposition, that is why. The arguments I keep hearing is mostly, the board is full of morons, they are stupid, and so on. That is the mentality of the people who are now, when the deal is don, complaining.

If you want some say in your government you need to pay attention, not just sit back and then complain. The people I know who are against this building have in the past proudly proclaimed that they do not vote in the elections. Now they want to say the people on the county board are morons? Makes a person wonder..

Way to go IOWA County!!!! WELL DONE! This is exactly what we've been talking about everyone! Great Job. Good Luck on seeing it through, please keep us posted as events unfold, you all deserve to pat yourselves on the back, but don't give up just yet, I'd wait until the contractors opt to relocate their belongings until a final decision is made one way or the other.

Thanks for letting all of us know what you all are doing in IOWA County!
